Knockrome Old School on Lowlandmans Bay is home to both XA Music and Sound Of Jura.

XA Music is a music publisher and record label, creating bespoke music and sound design for TV, film, theatre and radio.

Sound of Jura is the recording studio where all of this happens and it has also been the crucible for the production of acclaimed World and Roots music albums from artists such as Yat-Kha, Aline Frazão, Mekons and Moiizah.

Owner Giles Perring uses the schoolroom studio for music production, live events and cross-media art. On Tuesday nights he hosts ‘Tunesnight’, an evening of social singing which is open to all.

Giles’s sound sculptures can be found on Jura in the shape of the Batphone at Corran and his own World Organ which streams musically shaped sounds of the island to the world.

By appointment appointment only. Musicians wishing to enquire about having their music produced at the studio should get in touch.

Tunesnight is at 19:30 on Tuesday nights and welcomes all visitors to Jura. The session runs when a magic number of singers materialise each week. Please email to book your space.
